The Volkswagen Virtus, Skoda Slavia and Hyundai Verna have scored a 5 star safety rating at Global NCAP. All these models are sedans. Now, a new sedan has garnered a 5 star safety rating, and it is none other than the upcoming fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire.
The new Dzire will be launched in India on November 11. For reference, the Dzire is the largest-selling sedan in the country, having amassed sales of more than 2,700,000 units since its entry into the Indian market.
In its fresh avatar, the 2024 Dzire has got some major updates. But none seem to be more important than six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard fittings. The car also complies with pedestrian protection norms.
There are more standard safety features like hill hold assist, ABS with EBD, brake assist, a three-point seatbelt for all seats, rear defogger, and Isofix mounts as standard. Based on the latest fifth-generation Heartect platform, the car’s structure is made of 45% high tensile steel.
All this has resulted in the Dzire 2024 performing handsomely at Global NCAP crash tests. The car has bagged five stars in the adult occupant protection category and four stars in the child occupant protection category. This is no doubt excellent, considering the poor show of other Maruti cars at Global NCAP, but we would have appreciated it more had the car got full five stars in the child section as well.
Talking about points, the 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire scored 31.24 out of 34 in adult safety and 39.20 out of 49 in child safety.
Global NCAP also tested the outgoing Dzire. It received two stars each in the adult and child categories with 22.22 and 24.45 points, respectively.
This clearly shows the amount of effort Maruti Suzuki engineers have put in to make the new Dzire safer than before. It is, in fact, the carmaker’s safest car to date, based on Global NCAP ratings.
The new Dzire has the new Z12E 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 81.58PS of maximum power and 111.7Nm of peak torque. The transmission options include 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT.
The 2024 Maruti Suzuki Dzire price is expected to hover between Rs 6.99 lakh and Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The car will continue to compete with the Hyundai Aura, Honda Amaze, and Tata Tigor.
